According to Black Book’s recent 2017 Revenue Cycle Management Surveys – based on a research study designed to track consumer satisfaction and patient experience trends, as well as uncover payment challenges and strategies for healthcare provider organizations – the rise of patient consumerism is driving 83% of providers to make more retail-like technology solutions and practices a priority.

“Emerging healthcare pay trends reveal the opportunity to help patients better anticipate, manage, and track the costs of their care,” Black Book Managing Partner Doug Brown told Healthcare Finance in October. “Innovative, patient-friendly payment solutions that meet consumer preferences and enable fast transactions are playing a key role in this transition.”

Such solutions are credited with helping providers predict patients’ propensity to pay and engage patients in payment and financing discussions earlier, supporting practice / hospital revenue cycle success, while simultaneously improving patient satisfaction through cost transparency and the management of expectations.
