This happens to us regulary so, yes, we have printed them out. Last time the question was "Where did you go on your first vacation?" I kept typing in "The Beach" but it was just "Beach", it turns out. Shoulda looked at the list.

Gotta be a better way...

Almost every dialog a user encounters (any platform), displays the “accept” button on the left and the “cancel” button on the right. I always fall into the OK-Cancel camp because of that fact alone. As far as wizards having “>”: At this point users know when they are using a multi step dialog and shift their thinking for it. Also, most users can read... most. :)

Hey Neal,
I have to make an argument for why we took the Cancel-OK approach, because this one is close to my heart. Most of the interactions in this application are wizards, so the user may want to click through by keeping the mouse in the same place. If the OK (or in our case Next) button is the farthest right, this is easy. But what happens when you insert Back, Finish, or other buttons? OK moves around, or is at least less appropriate in its position to the left of Cancel.

The screenshot you show is one that isn't a wizard, but those are the minority in this app. Consistency with the wizards won on this one. Hopefully that helps explain why we did it that way. :)

Peter,
I agree - I should have clarified that I use SnagIt on my PC but was unable to find anything as good for the Mac. Then I discovered Jing and was able to access many of the same features on my Mac that I enjoy on the PC. I think the interface of Jing is really great - they anticipated exactly what I would want to do and I love the ability to share, post to Flickr, etc.

Hopefully SnagIt for Mac will be released soon! Thanks for your comment.

Hello,

I agree that Jing is great, but Snagit has loads of functionality that Jing doesn't have. If you are interested in more ways to capture (snagit boasts of over 40 ways to capture) and much more tools to edit your pictures and include nice stamps and call-outs, then you should definitely take another look at Snagit.
