On Technology and Innovation
Technology innovation is only worthwhile if it impacts someone’s life. The impact can be small, medium or large but it has to make a difference. We are particularly excited with the acceleration of healthcare unbound technologies like Halo Monitoring which are enabling the care of people’s health outside of traditional facilities - at home and on the road.

Founder and Chief Operating Officer

Blaine Anderson Professional Background
After earning an engineering degree at Auburn, I headed to NASA, where I worked in the areas of vibration and acoustics, running tests on Space Station modules before they launched. I got the entrepreneurial bug during the dot-com mania and joined a startup with David, building a consumer-facing application in the health care space. After the dot-com "correction" I joined an early stage software services company where I spearheaded the expansion into two new geographic markets and built some of the earliest .NET commercial applications launched. I left that company to co-found PointClear with Donnie in 2006 and am now lucky enough to be working with some of the smartest folks I have ever met!

The Smart Phone. Although I sometimes miss the simplicity of the good old simple “flip phone”, I now have figured out what functionality works for me as a true productivity tool and have more or less optimized my use of the platform.

On User Experience and Design
Well obviously any consumer product from Apple. But, another one that not as many people are aware of but is just is cool is the Sonos home music system. They have pretty much done everything right from a UX perspective. Easy to setup, easy to configure and easy to operate. The concentrate on what the User really cares about, which is listening to music – not configuring networks and firewalls. Truly a zero-configuration system. And “there is an app for that” – you can control it from an iPhone/iPad too!

Lee Farabaugh

Director of User Experience

Lee Farabaugh Professional Background
I started my career as a web site producer, helping many colleges and universities launch their first generation web sites. This was back in the day when web designers had to fight with print designers, and people said the Internet was just a fad. Since then I have built web sites and applications, managed web application projects, discovered the value of good user experience, returned to school to learn more about what makes user experience excellent, and envisioned, created and tested application interfaces for companies and organizations such as Delta Airlines, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, as well as a number of hospital systems and healthcare software companies.

On Technology and Innovation
Apps. I love the concept of apps for several reasons. One is that they have made a software development term (applications) commonplace. Now everyone understands what we mean by an app. Second, apps solve specific, measurable problems in everyday life. It has become somewhat of a joke, but it’s more true than not: find a problem you need to solve, and “there’s gotta be an app for that.”

On User Experience and Design
No user experience design discussion is complete without someone invoking the iPod, iPad, or iTunes. Not only are these products and the applications associated with them game-changers in terms of clean, intuitive, and practical solutions that meet and exceed users’ expectations, but they are also paradigm changers. iPod made it possible to carry your CD collection in your pocket, and iTunes showed the world that users don’t want to buy the whole album…they want to buy the songs they want. Think of an unmet need and create a platform around it.

Chief Medical Information Officer - Product Strategy Practice Director

Current Responsibilities

Dr. Hamilton currently serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer and Product Strategy Practice Director for PointClear Solutions, Inc., an innovative healthcare-focused software development firm with particular expertise in goal directed and user centric design. His particular focus is on helping healthcare organizations achieve their business goals through the strategic use of information technology via the implementation or integration of existing technologies and/or the development of custom solutions. In this role, he also leads a distinguished physician advisory panel that assists PointClear with understanding and responding to current and emerging trends in healthcare delivery.

In addition, he continues to practice pediatrics on a limited basis at a private practice that he co-founded in 2006. He is an administrator and active user of an ambulatory EMR in that setting, and he remains an active member of the clinical staff at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Prior Experience

Prior to joining PointClear Solutions in 2011, Dr. Hamilton was the Corporate Director of Medical Informatics for Vanguard Health Systems, a 26 hospital investor-owned health system based in Nashville, TN. His responsibilities included the creation of the overall clinical information systems strategy for the inpatient and outpatient settings, the development of Vanguard’s health information exchange strategy, the creation of a business intelligence infrastructure for the clinical operations and quality departments, and the development of tools and process for developing and managing clinical content and clinical decision support. In addition to these responsibilities, he also actively participated in key quality and patient safety initiatives and corporate strategic planning activities. He was routinely engaged to suggest innovative informatics approaches for continuously improving performance throughout the health system.

Before joining Vanguard in 2007, Dr. Hamilton held a number of positions within McKesson’s information technology division. His work focused primarily on the product development, implementation, and product management activities related to McKesson’s CPOE solution called Horizon Expert Orders (HEO). HEO was purchased from Vanderbilt by McKesson in 2001. In 2005, he also began the implementation of an ambulatory EMR solution for a private 35 provider 7 location pediatric practice in Nashville, TN.

Education, Awards, and Professional Affiliations

Dr. Hamilton received his Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee – Memphis College of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Additionally, he has been a member of the Health Informatics Taskforce of the Federation of American Hospitals and the National Quality Forum’s Clinical Decision Support Technical Expert Panel.

Cynthia E. Morneweck (MS-HCI 2001)

Director of Operations – UX Practice, Senior UX Expert

Professional Background

I was a Chemist and Project Manager in an environmental laboratory in my first career life. In my second career life, I did a 180 turn toward design and interiors. I think they always say that three times is the charm. It was the marriage of scientific theory and design that made User Experience where I wanted to plant my feet and grow my career. The strong methodology, understanding people and their work, and pure design are all so interesting to me. Since people will always be “messy” and technology always changing, the field of User Experience will remain challenging and fascinating. I have worked Academia (Georgia Institute of Technology), Public Health (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)), and now Healthcare with a number of hospital systems and healthcare software companies.

Education and Degree

Georgia Tech – MS in Human-Computer Interaction

On Technology and Innovation

I love that technology is a moving target. I think the 18 month rule is now more like 12 months now. It is only going to get shorter. I think this short life cycle forces innovation. How we as users catch up to such a short life cycle mentally? How do the usage models of a few years ago disappear with three new ones to understand? We have to be creative and innovative about this.

On User Experience and Design

For me, it is just plain and simple, User Experience is the most important topic and it touches everything. I live and breathe it. My husband once asked me “if I could turn it off ever?” and the answer is it is just not possible. I see opportunities for innovation and improvement in all parts of life. It affects all people all day long. It is very important to me to know that the field of User Experience as a whole has made a positive difference in people’s lives.
